OSI Industries began as a meat market in the early nineteen-hundreds. An immigrant from Germany named Otto Kolschowsky had the vision for a business model that would eventually become a worldwide enterprise. Kolschowsky opened doors for business in the Chicago area. He called his company Otto and Sons. Otto and Sons quickly grew from a meat market to a distributor for other businesses that were serving food in the area. This included restaurants and supermarkets.
In the 1950s Otto and Sons crossed paths with a businessman named Ray Kroc. Ray Kroc was the CEO of McDonald’s. McDonald’s was looking to expand into the Chicago area and needed a meat supplier for their restaurants. Otto and Sons became one of several suppliers to the McDonald’s franchise. Over time they would introduce innovations that set them apart from the other distributors. Cryogenic freezing changed the fast food industry. Otto and Sons was at the forefront of this movement. They also introduced the meat patty cutting machine. The Patty cutting machine allowed McDonald’s to receive the product they needed in a form that was immediately ready to use. Eventually Otto and sons became the primary meat supplier to McDonald’s, which would go on to reach international success.
Otto and Sons eventually became known as OSI Industries. OSI Industries is now a worldwide supplier of food products to several different restaurant chains. They produce products such as beef, hot dogs and bacon. Their clientele list boasts major franchises including Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Papa John’s Pizza and Subway.
OSI Industries is at the forefront of equal opportunity. The company has recruiting bases in the Americas, Germany, Hungary, the UK and Poland. There are also extensive career opportunities available for individuals in the Asia-Pacific.
The success of OSI Industries has led to many accolades and awards. It was named by Forbes magazine as the 136th largest private company in the United States in 2011. They received the Globe of Honor award in 2016. This award is presented to organizations that display a high level of professionalism and excellent safety within their operations.
